While the subtitle of this book (How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action) suggests that the content is for leaders of large organizations, I believe the book's details can apply to all kinds of leaders and businesses.

The main mantra of the book is:

People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it.

The book includes stories of many different companies. Some were successful, and others were not. The successful ones were led by individuals who strongly believed in something (they had a Why), which was the business's guiding principle. …

I’ve been doing a lot more writing than I had in the past, so I thought this book would be a great book to read. This book had a lot of good information about different ways to communicate to help readers stay interested in your writing and keep them reading until the end. There was also some great advice about how to help the reader feel like you’re having a conversation with them personally.

There were three parts to the book:

  1. Understanding Your Reader
  2. How to Explain Complicated Ideas
  3. How to Not Be Boring

Some of the key takeaways I got from the book were:

Know How Much To Share

I definitely try to do this…

This month’s read was another book that’s been on my “to read” list for quite a while. I purchased the paperback version of the book on vacation several years back. I started to read it then but didn’t finish the e-book version until this past month.

I enjoyed reading the book and was surprised by the many actionable steps included in it. When I read a book on my Kindle, I use the app’s highlighting feature to highlight certain types of notes using the four available highlighting colors:

· Yellow = general note

· Orange = another person’s quote

When you start working with Microsoft Excel, one of the essential things you need to understand about the program is cell references and how they work. To understand cell references, you first need to understand the composition of an Excel worksheet.

Excel worksheets contain columns that go across the page. Columns use letters as their name starting at A and increasing by one through column XFD. Each column has a header with its letter. Clicking a column header will select the column.

Microsoft Excel has several functions categorized as lookup functions. Many of them can be replaced by the versatile XLOOKUP function. The XLOOKUP function can replace the VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and INDEX + MATCH functions. However, the XLOOKUP function is only available in Excel for Microsoft 365. If you have an older Excel version, you’ll need to use one of the other Excel lookup functions to perform your lookups.

I heard about mind mapping probably a few decades ago but never took the time to really look into it. It turns out there’s not much to it. In a nutshell, you just:

  • Place your main topic in the center of the mind map.
  • Place subtopics around the main topic.
  • Drill down further into each sub-topic with additional details.

There are a few things you can do to help distinguish the hierarchy of items on a mind map:

  • Size
  • Color
  • Shape
  • Placement

In addition to just explaining how to create a mind map, the book goes into detail about the…

After reading the Four Agreements, I was pretty excited to read The Fifth Agreement. I was a little disappointed, though, because a lot of the content rehashed the first four agreements, and not very much of the book was dedicated to the fifth agreement. However, it was helpful to review the first four agreements and see how the fifth agreement fit into the picture.

The book is split into two parts:

  • Part 1: The Power of Symbols
  • Part 2: The Power of Doubt

The five agreements are:

  1. Be impeccable with your word.
  2. Don’t take anything personally.
  3. Don’t make assumptions.
  4. Always do your best.
  5. Be skeptical but learn to listen.

The authors…

The book Ultralearning teaches the reader how to learn better and get better results from what they are trying to learn. “Ultralearning is a strategy for acquiring skills and knowledge that is both self-directed and intense.”

I read this book more from the perspective of a teacher rather than a learner. I may use the concepts at some point to do my own ultralearning projects, but since I am creating content to teach people new skills, I’m looking for ways to make my content more engaging. …

A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

I’ve wanted to read this book for some time, and I’m sorry that I waited so long to do so. Reading this book and applying it to my life are two separate things. After reading the book, I have so many unanswered questions, but awareness is the first step to making these changes.

Four agreements, it sounds so simple, but I think it’s hard to make these agreements, and I have a great deal of work before they become a part of my life.

Here are the four agreements:

  • Be impeccable with your word.
  • Don’t take anything personally.
  • Don’t make assumptions.
  • Always do your best.

Here’s some of what I’ve personally gotten from each agreement:

Be Impeccable with Your Word

Discover Your Purpose, Conquer Your Fears, and Fulfill Your Potential

My decision to read this book was more based on the subtitle than the title. The title sounded a little self-serving, but as I read the book, I realized that I want to be amazing not for my benefit but for how my being amazing can help others. This made me feel better about reading the book and sharing a review of it.

The book outlines six qualities that you should have to be amazing and four steps to get there.

The six qualities are:

  1. Offer unexpected acts of generosity, kindness, and other thoughtful behaviors.
  2. Don’t necessarily strive for being the best but do…
